When Your Art Becomes a Product… Let’s talk about something that cuts deep, especially during Mental Health Awareness Month. What happens when your passion… your joy… your voice becomes something to market? It’s one of the hardest parts of being a professional artist. ARTIST. SINGER. SONGWRITER. PERFORMER. The Commodification of Self-ExpressionIn today’s industry, we’re expected to brand ourselves. Package our stories. Market our vulnerability. Turn our inner world into content and a product. And even when you do get paid well, when the song sells, when the merch moves, it can still leave you feeling… weird and hollow & exhausted. Because how do you price something priceless? Music, Visual Art, Poetry, Performance… these things are INVALUABLE. They connect us. They move us. They heal us. They make us human. You and Your Music are MORE!!May is Mental Health Awareness Month, but mental health challenges for indie artists are a year-round reality. Being an indie artist means putting your heart on the line constantly. Every performance, every release, every pitch is a vulnerable act. And when your art is also your income, it’s easy to start tying your value to what you create… or how well it’s received. .....I’ve been there. For a long time, I couldn’t separate who I was from what I did. Music wasn’t just a job, it was my identity. My self-worth rose and fell with every win and every rejection. And while passion drove me, I was slowly burning out, questioning my worth whenever I wasn’t producing, performing, or promoting. Many of us creatives naturally resist the idea that we shouldn’t tie our identity to our art, because being an artist is so much more than a “job.” But you will find FREEDOM in releasing yourself from that being your whole identity. Remember, while artist is one of your descriptors, you are more than that! You are not your metrics. You are not less valuable when you are not producing! Your worth is not tied to your output. You are valuable whether you’re center stage or singing to your steering wheel. Whether your song charts or lives only in your voice memos. Whether your creativity is flowing or hibernating. Your self-worth does not require justification through your output. I stopped tying my identity to what I achieved. I stepped back and remembered that music is what I do… it is not all of who I am. I started treating rest as strategic, not indulgent. I stopped hustling while experiencing emotional collapse. I started protecting the sacred part of my artistry that doesn’t want to be “marketed,” just explored, experienced, expressed. And something beautiful happened. Want to Try That For Yourself?
Taking care of yourself isn’t just about surviving… It’s how you’ll thrive. When you build systems that support your mind and body, your creativity will deepen. Your performances will feel more authentic. Your work will become more sustainable. Step A Little Deeper Into The Playground! Your creativity is sacred.

And.. why should we care about Shawn Mendes sexuality anyway? Frankly I'm not sure most grown ups care about what Shawn Mendes is exploring in his personal life . After all, don't we already have Troye Sivan and a dozen other “up and coming” “out and proud” queer boys declaring themselves available for our consumption these days? Its just that Shawn is an already established commodity, a mega pop star with billions of followers and fans around the globe, his “questioning his sexuality” has...

These days our lives as artists are jammed up with “stuff we gotta do”! Writing Material, Getting Bookings, Finding an Audience, Building Content etc Often we have so many plates in the air we get overwhelmed and shut down completly! Sound familiar?
